"Sam," born July 10, 1997, out of the late Sand Valley Sam, known to many in the AB world as Joshua's Cowboy, and Joshua's Maxi Lou, aka "Possum," left us on October 8. 2006. A bulldog with a better temperament, we have never met. He never won a single conformation ribbon (although several of his offspring have), never bit a sleeve, but he was a smart, cautious, remarkable catch dog. He was loving, loyal, and most dependable, in any situation, to the end. He is much missed.

His legacy includes what several owners of his offspring and others in the AB community had to say when learning of Sam's passing: "Jake [his son] is the sweetest and most obedient dog (best) I have ever had." "JUNIOR [also his son] IS THE BEST DOG THAT I HAVE EVER OWNED. SAM HAD AN EVEN BETTER TEMPERAMENT THAN HIM."  "I sure am sorry to hear about Sam. He was the first male bulldog I ever laid eyes on. When we first visited you guys, Sam and Belle were the selling points we needed to see to decide we wanted a dog from Clayhill Farms!" "I am sorry to hear that you lost Sam. I understand your attachment. It sounds to me as if Bama [another son] is a spitting image of his father. As you said, no better and balanced temperament can be found." "His great temperament continues on in Scout (a daughter).  Everyone who meets her loves her!...We were able to take her with us on a trip to Sequoia.  We rented a cabin on a ranch that was right outside the park.  The ranch owners love dogs and have a river running through the property.  Scout had so much fun!  The owners liked her so much, they said it would be o.k. if we 'accidentally' left Scout there...I do not know if I told you this last year, but I take her into the middle school once a week; we go to a class with severe learning disabilities.  We go to the reading corner, and the kids come read to Scout.  It is called pet therapy.  Scout is good at it because, even though she is rowdy outside, she is a couch potato inside.  The teacher adores Scout!"   Sam's legacy also includes his wonderful offspring that you can meet within the pages of our website, starting with the girls below.

Born Jan. 2003, littermates Annie and M are out of Sam and Samantha of Clayhill (Belle X Hammer). Annie much resembles her grandsire, Cowboy, and thus was given her registered name stated above. M's registered name is Native American for water/creek/lake, as she rivals a Lab in her swimming and retrieving abilities. Here, the girls are engaged in their favorite pastime of wrestling. Their matches sometimes sound "heated," but they are fiercely loyal and devoted to one another -- something very rare in same gender adult ABs -- truly best friends!

Annie and M's first NKC show as adults was the Southern Classic of March 2004 in Abbeville, Georgia. They each took Best Female in Show in their respective rings in the adult class. A very proud day for Clayhill Farms! Prior to that, Annie had not failed to place in any show she entered as a puppy, and M went on to place at the NKC Nationals in May 2004.
